Polaris Dawn Crew Completes Historic Mission
Landmark Spaceflight Achieves Multiple Firsts
The Polaris Dawn crew has made history, successfully completing a groundbreaking spaceflight mission that has pushed the boundaries of human space exploration.
The mission, which launched on September 15, 2022, was led by Jared Isaacman, the billionaire founder of Shift4 Payments, and included three other crew members: Scott Poteet, a former NASA astronaut; Sarah Gillis, a medical researcher; and Anna Menon, an engineer.
Key Mission Objectives
The Polaris Dawn mission had several key objectives, including:
*The crew successfully achieved all of these objectives, making the mission a resounding success.
First Commercial Spacewalk
One of the most significant milestones of the Polaris Dawn mission was the first-ever commercial spacewalk. On September 20, 2022, Isaacman and Poteet exited the Dragon spacecraft and spent six hours and 28 minutes conducting a series of experiments outside the vehicle.
During the spacewalk, the duo tested new spacesuits and tools, and collected data on the effects of space radiation on the human body.
Fundraising for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
The Polaris Dawn mission also had a philanthropic goal: to raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The crew raised over $240 million for the hospital, which is dedicated to treating and researching childhood cancer.
The mission's success is a testament to the growing commercial space industry and the potential for private companies to play a major role in space exploration. It is also a testament to the power of innovation and the human spirit.
