EU Unemployment Stable but Youth Unemployment Remains High

The unemployment rate in the European Union (EU) remained stable at 6.0% in April 2024, unchanged from March 2024 and April 2023.

However, youth unemployment, which measures the percentage of people aged 15-24 who are unemployed, remained high at 14.7%. This is a slight decrease from 14.9% in March 2024, but still significantly higher than the overall unemployment rate.

The euro area, which includes 19 EU countries, also saw a stable unemployment rate of 6.5% in February 2024, unchanged from January 2024.

However, youth unemployment in the euro area remained high at 14.3%, down from 14.5% in January 2024.

Spain has the highest unemployment rate in the EU, with 11.7% of its population unemployed in March 2024. Greece, Italy, and Cyprus also have high unemployment rates, above 10%.

The unemployment situation in the EU remains a concern, particularly for young people. The high youth unemployment rate highlights the need for targeted policies to help young people find jobs.
